ELDERS MESSAGE ~
“The Powerful Results of Prayer&=
#8221; God is deeply interested in our re=
lationship
with him and our relationship with the world. To help us grow and mature in both=
of
those relationships God bestowed the gift of prayer. In Jesus’ introduction to the
Lord’s Prayer he offered these words: “And
when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standin=
g in
the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have re=
ceived
their reward in full. But whe=
n you
pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is
unseen. Then your Father, who=
sees
what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on
babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their ma=
ny
words. Do not be like them, f=
or
your Father knows what you need before you ask him.” – Matt=
hew
6: 5-8 In these verses Jesus =
is
giving us clear instruction; that we ought to seek out a quiet place to pra=
y, a
place where we won’t be distracted and can speak to and hear from
God.
In
August the Elders and Pastor Paul went on a retreat to John Hearing’s
cabin just outside of
One of
the many results of our retreat was a renewed understanding of our role as
Elders at Peace. We believe t=
hat
our role and function is to extend the pastoral ministry to each and every
member of the congregation. A=
s we
work toward fulfilling this role we will strive to provide each and every o=
ne
of you with information regarding what is available at church that will hel=
p to
meet your needs. One of the m=
ost
immediate ways we hope to help you is by praying for you and with you. Don’t hesitate to contact yo=
ur
Elder and share your prayer concerns.
God is interested in every part of our life, even things that may se=
em
mundane or unimportant.
Paul instructed Timothy with these wor=
ds
regarding worship and prayer: &=
#8220;I
urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgi=
ving
be made for everyone – for kings and all those in authority, that we =
may
live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our
Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the
truth.” – 1 Tim. 2: 1-4
Even though our God is all powerful an=
d all
knowing, he has chosen to let us take part in his work in the world through=
the
gift of prayer. This is a mys=
tery
to us, but it is God’s desire that we pray “without ceasingR=
21;
for ourselves, our leaders, and our world.=
Who knows what wonderful things God will do through our most earnest=
and
humble prayers…

~ CURRY

Hello, Pe=
ace
family! We have another update to give you all regarding our summer t=
rip
to
=
While
at Kabawala, we distributed used clothing and toys to the children we
met. It did not go nearly far enough. They are so poor, it's ha=
rd
to describe. At least 90% of the children had no shoes. As we
handed each child, face to face, a t-shirt, or a pair of shorts, or maybe a
pair of underwear, we were struck by their feet. All were wide,
rough, scarred, and and some even had open sores. The dirt in mu=
ch
of these areas is not just dirty, but filled with bacteria and parasites.&n=
bsp;
We were told to not even touch the dirt. These children walk in this =
dirt
daily with their feet in this condition.
=
So, we fe=
lt
moved to leave our remaining money with James to go out and purchase new sh=
oes
for as many children as possible at Kabawala. Shoes
are "required" to attend school, but most schools don't turn
away shoeless children. Their education is too important.
Here =
;are James'
report and a few photos:
I
could buy 10 pairs of shoes, each pair at 20,000 shillings (about $=
10
US). I got 4 pairs for boys and 7 pairs for girls. More good news is that the s=
eller
gave me one pair of shoes for free after he got to know that I was buying f=
or
children in need. So which means that I got 11 pairs of shoes in total for =
the
children. I cannot say =
thank
you enough when I see that at least 11 children are going to begin their new
school term in shoes, and I got to learn that all the children who got the
shoes were walking to school bare footed.&=

Men’s Bible Study – W.A.L.K With God
We all know how to “walk” on our own, but do we really know
how to W.A.L.K. with God? Thi=
s will
be the theme of the “Men’s only” Bible study to be offered
during the Sunday School hour, starting this fall (Sunday, November 8t=
h). We will use a wonderful book titled
“When God Whispers Your Name” by Max Lucado, as a catalyst for =
our
discussions. Scripturally, th=
e word
“walk” in it’s various forms is used “figuratively&=
#8221;
to signify the whole round of activities of the individual life, “met=
aphorically”
in relationships with others and “physically” to describe liter=
ally
the act of walking orderly and in step with others.
The goal of the study will be to make an acronym using the word W.A.L.=
K.
to describe what God is teaching or telling us in each lesson. To sign up for more info contact D=
avid
