Late in the fall of 1992, Pastor Kunz accepted a semi-retirement position in a small congregation in La Junta, Colorado. We bid a fond farewell to Pastor Bob and Ruth on December 31st.
For 1 ½ months in 1993 without our first pastor, our elders conducted worship services. District then sent us an interim pastor: Pastor Gordon Kloehn from Spokane. He commuted to be with us, going home only two or three days each week. He served our congregation well until August.
During this time, a Call Committee began a search for a permanent pastor for Peace. Pastor William Beversdorf accepted the call, and he and his wife Karen and daughter Stephanie moved to Covington in July from Canoga Park, California. On August 22, 1993, Pastor Beversdorf was installed as Peace’s second pastor.
By our 10th anniversary celebration in June 1995, Peace grew to include Adult Choir, Joyful Noise Youth choir, Junior and Senior Youth Groups, Peace All-Stars (for children aged 6 11), monthly Men’s Bible breakfasts and activities, Women at Peace (LWML affiliated) monthly breakfasts (including quilting and crafting sessions, retreats, service projects and yearly ‘Buffy Bus’ trips to various Christmas bazaars), as well as prayer groups and Bible studies.
